In awe of the beauty

I have not been to work all week. Cameron has not been to school. We measured 9.5 inches of snow in our yard. Our electricity managed to stay on while over 200,000 households were out and are still out. We got cabin fever a couple of times, but luckily my mom was adventurous and came and took us out. We had warm water and hot meals. We had lots of playtime, rest time, and together time and overall the week was good.

The ice storm came in on Thursday and I was amazed at the beauty of it all. Each leaf, twig, branch, and blade of grass was encased in ice. It was spectacular!

There were also several trees that could not withstand the weight of the snow and ice and snapped apart, lost branches or completely toppled down. I'm grateful that the tree that stood between my neighbor and I did not hurt my car or house when it fell apart. It stood over 20 feet tall and now it's on the ground. I thought it was going to be salvageable but it is going to have to be taken out.

I'm grateful that we're safe, warm and well!!! I'm grateful for the time I had with Cameron this week. I just wish I was a fortunate teller because if I had foreseen this storm I would have went on a vacation.

Today we woke up to a winter wonderland. I don't think I've ever experienced this much snow in the Great NorthWest!!! Cameron and i measured 9.5 inches in our front yard this morning. That is a lot of snow!!!

We are really enjoying the week off together!

Basketball has started once again.

Cameron has a love/hate relationship. He hates to get ready and go but once he gets there he loves it. He made a his first basket of the season on Saturday. Wish I could have caught the excitement on film but my camera SUCKS!!!!

Cameron has been telling me the last couple of games that the other team(s) have been pushing. He's been quite upset that the Ref has not been calling it. I blew it off and thought he was trying to blame something on the fact that they did not win. Well, I was sure wrong.....we got it on film.

I sure love watching him play soccer and am sad that it is almost over!

I love this time of year; fall leaves, the cold air, soccer playing, pumpkins, corn mazes, costumes, candy and lots of memories with my son. This year we had 2 firsts.....he touched the guts of his pumpkin and carved this thing all by his self!!! He is one proud boy!

Tournament Time

The Boys had 2 games on Saturday and one game on Sunday. We choose to sit out the Sunday game. This is our fourth year sitting out on Sunday....I've always had my answer ready if someone was to ask why but in four years no one has ever questioned it.

So far every game I've left the camera at home but I'm in luck, one of the mom's set up a Shutterfly sight and I can go on and steal all the pictures I want.

After every game the parents make a tunnel so the boys can run through....they love it and run through multiple times!

As most of you know I LOVE sushi but I always have to twist Cameron's arm to make him go with me and then when we leave I usually end up buying him fast food.

Tonight was an exception.

He ended up ordering his usual, popcorn chicken and asked if he ate it all could he have chocolate mouse cake. I said sure. While I was waiting for him to finish his dessert a sign came around on the conveyor belt saying something about salmon. He said, 'Mom, they have salmon here?" At that point I realized he had no clue that sushi was fish. Then he said, "I love salmon can I have some?" So, I took a plate off and he devoured it giving me a thumbs up and telling me how good it was.

I think I'll wait to tell him it's raw and never been cooked!

Bathroom Revamp

My bathroom was soooooooooo gross!

Several months ago I attempted to caulk my bathtub, I did a horrible job and the tub grew mold. I tried everything to clean it but nothing worked. I also had shower doors that were not working properly and never looked clean no matter what I did, so it was time for a little summer revamp. My mom came over on Friday and we removed the doors, scraped everything down and caulked the whole tub properly. I love it and it looks so clean!!!

Cameron was at my dad's so on the way home I told him I changed things a little and he said, "Can I get a little bit of me in there. I'm tired of all this girl stuff."

I still want to paint the cabinet and light fixture, get new sink and shower fixtures but that will have to come at a later time!!

My camera has been dead for months. I finally charged it up the other day and look what I found........my two darling nieces!!! I love that they come and visit us every Christmas and I can't wait to see them in August at Banks Lake.

This week has been a bear!!! I gave up caffeine once again. To be really honest I'm tired of talking about this and so I'm not going to anymore...I just feel bad for Cameron because I've been pretty lazy, hoping next week will be better.

Cameron has discovered a store in Edmonds called Terri's Toy Box and he can't wait to go there and spend money. I've been giving him odd jobs around the house to do so he can make a buck or two. This super deluxe car wash cost me $3.00 but the best part about it is Cameron had fun and he did a pretty good job for his first time.

I have had no time to blog over the past several months and I've got so many pictures to post and so much to say I don't even know where to begin. Summer is finally here and I am loving it so far. I'm still in school for another 3 weeks but it's coming to an end also. I'm going to try and post a little each day and maybe do a recap of what you've missed out on. Things are really good around here, just busy!!!

My sister posted this picture of Cameron on her facebook page, he was 4! Being a mom is one of the hardest things I think I've ever done but it's also been the best experience of my whole life. Each day he teaches me something new. I love him and am grateful I get to raise him!!!!!

Christmas Tour 2010

I wanted to give you the grand tour of my house for Christmas and then I looked over all my pics and I only had 3! So it's not going to be much of a tour! This is our 2nd Christmas in our new house and we're loving it!!!! Cameron and I love looking at all the decorations and talking about where they came from and past memories....he's got such a great memory!!

I love my fireplace!!!!! I love decorating it. I love having fires. I love when people come over and use it as a seat. I just love it!!!! This year I got tons of Christmas cards and wanted to display them (matter of fact they are still hanging there) so I called Teri and got some ideas. When I went to Joanne's I was thought I was going to buy some beads and then I came across this silver wire that has stars on it.

I picked up a bag of small colored clothes pins and tacked up!

I am highly impressed with my invention!

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and was able to spend lots of time with family and friends. Cameron and I had a great time and our 2 week vacation always goes by way too fast. I've got lots of pictures to post and will soon!!!!

I'm 36 years old and I've never eaten or even made an over-easy egg. Yesterday my Dad took Cameron and Dallin to the 'airplane restaurant' for breakfast. Cameron ate 2 french toast, 7 pieces of bacon and 2 eggs over-easy. He loved them. So, guess what he requested this morning??? YUCK!!!

Cameron: "Mom, it doesn't taste like the restaurant eggs!"

First let me remind everyone that last year I grounded Cameron from Halloween....when I think back to last year, it was pre medication and really probably wasn't fair but I had to follow through with the punishment I gave, and I did! So this year not only is Cameron excited but so am I!

Cameron and his BF Garret are Super Mario JUNKIES! They want to play it 24/7 and if they aren't playing the actual thing, then they are talking about it non-stop, or make believing different adventures. So how fitting that Cameron is Luigi this year and you'll never guess who Garret is? (on a side note: Miriam is deep in wedding stuff right now and she still took the time to put C's costume together....thank you Mim)

Cameron's friend Lauren came along for the fun. Her brother Donny was going to join us but he got the flu.

I've been hearing about Spooner Farms a lot this year and decided we needed to try. Today was Vicki's birthday and so we spent the afternoon with her here! I've got more pics of all of us but I need to get them from Vicki!

They had really cool spiders made out of hay bails throughout the whole place.

I guess this is a tradition....see here!

Cameron was actually letting me take his picture...shocker! That morning he prayed that the sun would be out so we could go and guess what? It rained all morning and then was clear skies!

Finally found the one and it only cost me $3.95

They have this area set up where you can shoot mini pumpkins at a target. Vicki got us on video so I'll upload when I get from her.

Of course I have to get all the gross guts out and then Cameron carved away!

Went to an Enrichment activity last week and made a few crafts. I love crafts that are all ready to go and all I have to do is paint and glue. I made a SPOOKY set of blocks and a set that says HARVEST. I have a great set of shelves that is the prefect place to display them.

Let me tell you about the pumpkin....my mom painted that for me back in 1992 or 1993. She sent me a halloween box when I was away at Ricks College and that was one of the gifts. Because he has a big round nose he's top heavy and doesn't stand up on his own--he's meant to be hung on the wall. See pic below to see how I got him to stand up.

I have one of the most creative sisters (and I'm not just saying that cause she sent me presents) matter of fact I have a lot of very creative, talented, fabulous sisters---I'm very lucky!!!! But the one I'm talking about lives far away and I don't like it much......we get to see each other several times a year which is great and I actually got to spend a whole week with her kid free this summer. After work on Friday I got to my mom's to pick up Cameron and there was my mom, Vicki and Sharon busily working on some pretty cool projects (look for more information on our upcoming Boutique next month!) and my mom said Teri had sent me some stuff.

Soccer update

With my new work schedule and trying to adjust I haven't had time to blog lately. I've had things to say but no time to say it. So here is a soccer update; Cameron is doing great and really liking soccer this year. His favorite position is spoiler but I think that's because he doesn't have to run all over the field....he's no idiot he's always looking for the easier softer way!

Here he is taking a water break and waiting for his turn to go back in.

My little camera has taken some pretty good action shots.....ususally I get all blur so I'm glad these turned out well.

Like the beanie? Cameron's team is called the werwolves this year and Shannon the coach's wife took beanies and glued a fur mohawk on them. They are pretty cool!

Cameron finally being a goalie. Last year he always tried to sneak into that position but this year they officially get to have the title and play.

Thumbs-up....he must have done something good.

At yesterdays game Cameron came up to me and told he really wasn't into playing soccer today. Not even 15 minutes he made his second goal of the season!! He was awarded the game ball for playing so well!!!!

It's almost over but it sure has been a great season!

Cameron and I had a date Friday night. His school was showing the movie G-Force and serving pizza. We had soooooooo much fun and that really was not said sarcastically. We loaded our bean bag chairs in the car, grabbed some blankets and headed out the door. Cameron was so cute; we set up, got in line for pizza and snacks and then he wanted to sit with me and not with his friends. The movie was ok but being there made Cameron's day and that made the night perfect!

My little boy is a cub scout.

He was so excited to go. He never gets excited about much and can be pretty negative but this he couldn't wait for. After buying his book, shirt and pack patches = $57.00 (ouch) he was ready for his first night. Before we left he said, "mom, do I get to wear my costume tonight!"

What a wild morning.....

someone kept wasting time, spilt cereal all over the store, didn't want to get dressed, only wanted to play and on and on and on. I didn't yell but I was so tired of nagging. Then as I was grabbing my shoes to run out the door there he was knelt down in front of the couch, "mom, we need to say our morning prayers!" He is an incredible kid!

Here's my 2nd grader!

My mom is a saint and helps with me Cameron every day before and after school. Cameron loves his time with her. This morning he was a little thrown off that he was not going to see his Grandma. Luckily she was still home when we pulled up and he ran into give her a hug.

Ms. Blitz is his teacher!

He almost didn't let me take this picture. He gave me that look like, 'come on mom you're embarrassing me!' Not sure if I'll be able to get away with it next year.

He had a great day.

Cameron's 'official' birthday was Sunday. My lil boy is officially EIGHT!!! We had cupcakes and ice cream with the fam.

I made chocolate peanut butter cupcakes and cupcakes with buttercream frosting. Cameron is a big 'cream' fan anything with lots of frosting is ok with him.

This is the only picture with our guests and it's not a very good one.

He was so excited!!! Cameron received $50 and when I asked him what was the first thing he needed to do with it he yelled out, "pay my taxes!" No, let's try tithing!!!

His 'real' birthday is on the 29th. The reason we had this party early is so his BF Garret could come and Cameron made sure he told everyone that!!! This was the best party I've thrown. I get so stressed out having lots of people over and how will I entertain and what games will we play and then there is the mess and on and on and on. So, being able to go in set up, kids to play freely and then to leave the mess was heaven sent! I'll be doing something like this again for sure!

My mom, sis Vicki, Cameron and I went to Ride the Ducks on Monday! It was actually a lot of fun and it better be for $46 (and that was only for Cameron and I). You get a 60 min land ride through Seattle and a 30 min water ride and it's packed full of insightful information, fun music to sing-a-long to and VERY lame jokes.

Cameron can be hard to please and gets bored real easy but he actually enjoyed this adventure and when it was all over asked if we could do it again.

It's strange to think that one moment you're on land and the next floating in the water.

After we were done we had a picnic under the Space Needle.

You're probably wondering what's up with this sign? I wasn't going to blog about this story that happened last month but when Vicki and I saw this sign I have to now!

Steve was here last month (for a minute) and we got to go to lunch with him. I told Cameron what we were doing and he asked if we could go to McDonald's (that is the first place Cameron will pick every time). I told him Steve doesn't eat 'fast' food and Cameron said, "Well, does he eat 'slow' food like Subway?" I thought that was pretty clever and then when Vicki and I went to lunch on Saturday to Benson's Best Bites I guess they serve 'slow' food too!

My one major goal this summer was to paint my bedroom furniture. Since the summer is coming to a close I thought I better get started. So yesterday I headed out bought some paint, invited a friend over to help and we started painting and we finished it too!!!!

Let me start out by saying I uploaded all of these backwards and I'm not redoing since it just took me an hour to upload these!!!! You'll have to bare with me and this might get a little confusing for sure!!

Going back to a place that you haven't been to in over 14 years you would expect some changes....but this place is totally different!!! Welcome to Rexburg, ID. I spent 2 years of my life here and I have to say it was probably the best 2 years of my life. I was young, free and independent!!!

SATURDAY

This is the grocery store that we would walk to....matter of fact it was the only grocery store in town and they had free delivery. So, if you couldn't hitch a ride from one of your friends at least it was close and you didn't have to haul all your groceries home.

FRIDAY

Several years ago Ricks College became BYU-Idaho. This was the only thing I found on campus that was there when I was there. Well, I found Thor but forgot to take a picture :(

Christi's graduation was long but I was glad I was able to attend!!!

YEA!!!! She did it!!!

She's accomplished a lot and I'm so proud of her!!!

THURSDAY

We ran around and shopped today!!!! We also went to the Hatch Family Chocolates you may notice this place from here. Steve Hatch was there but I thought it was cheezy asking for a picture of him since I've never even seen the show. The chocolates were good. My sister said their hot chocolate is to die for but drinking some in 90 degree weather didn't sound very appetizing!!!

After we left with our treats we drove by this shop....I made Teri stop because I thought it was so funny!!!!

WEDNESDAY

All my handbags traveled to SLC via mom and UPS....I was very excited to have a party and to hang out with friends and my cousins. It was a successful show...thanks Teri!!!!!

Vicki and I flew in around 1 and we were off to Rexburg for Christi's Senior Recital (I was not planning on attending her Graduation later in the week but as you saw at the beginning of the post I did). It was fun to visit and rock out to old tunes!

I was so excited to return to Rexburg but everything was soooooo different!!!

Outing #2 was a bit more then I signed up for. Our plan was to hike to Sheep Lake....we found this hike in a "Child Friendly" hike book. I actually hiked this back in 1994. It's approxiamyly 4 miles round trip and fairly easy. As we drove up to Crystal the sun was out, not too hot and there was beautiful scenery to check out.

We even found this great waterfall right off the road!

As we began to get closer to our destination thick fog began to roll in, the temp had dropped severely and then when we got to the spot this is what we found....

Mid July and still this particular hike was not hike-able. Shifting gears is not always easy for me or for Cameron. We had thought that we were going to hike to Sheep lake and now we had to figure out something else to do. On our way back down the mountain Cameron spotted a trail and so we stopped. The start to the trail was beautiful....it has a wooden bridge and an amazing stream running right through it. Vicki asked two hikers how this hike was and they said, "it's a little steep!"

It was 6 miles round trip and I figured we would give it a try and if it was too hard we would go back.....

Well, we didn't turn around and we continued to hike up a very VERY VERY steep trail! To be honest a few times I totally wanted to quit and was hoping that Cameron or somebody would say they've had enough. Cameron only wanted to quit once and that's because we were all walking to slow for him....laughs!

Just after the half way mark they is a great view of the mountain....however, my camera didn't take the best picture!

Yes, this is a bathroom and Yes I used it. Once you get to the top there are 2 camping sites and this toilet by the lower lake....the upper lake was another .5 miles and the thought of pressing on at this point seemed impossible!

As we were walking back down even Vicki was impressed that we all made it with how steep the trail was. My thighs and legs were still hurting 6 days later.

Going to see the Troll

Vicki, Cameron and I headed to Seattle to bike the Burke-Gilman trail. Cameron had never seen the troll so we locked our bikes up down below and walked up to check it out.

Not sure what was going on with Cameron today but he refused to let us take his picture.

I kept trying to secretly snap pictures and he just kept complaining and telling me to put it away.

I must have snapped 20 pictures and most of them looked like this with his back or head turned.

After the troll we rode to Gas Works Park and ate our lunch. It a strange park but the view of Seattle is breathtaking.

Cameron is becoming a great rider and is learning how to share the road. Vicki and I were both really proud of him.

Our next bike ride will be around Green Lake, I hope!!!!

Deception Pass

Summer is always a hectic time. It blows my mind how busy we get. I always think because I'm not working that I'm going to have all this time (8 extra hours) but it's not the case. I love having the time off but it just goes way too fast! At the beginning of the summer the three of us (Vicki, my mom and Me) sat with our calendars and planned out 4 outing days!!! Our first outing was to Deception Pass.

This place is beautiful!!!

We first started out by walking across the bridge....it was a little freaky when you looked down!

There is a bald eagle in this tree however you can't see it!!!

Happy 4th of July

With 4th of July being on a Sunday for our family it was a really low key day. After church we headed to my mom's for dinner and we invited the missionaries over.

Mom made YUMMY Bobby Flay burgers and

a delicious corn salad.

Then we went out did sparklers and a few other things I still had kicking around from last year.

That night we went to a friend of Vicki's and watched the Des Moines fireworks from their balcony. It was a lot of fun to be together, play cards and just hang out.

I'm so behind on blogging.....here it is one month after my CA trip and I still haven't blogged about our trip home.

Cameron and I had a great time in CA and the ride home may have taken 16 hours but it was well worth it. We stopped at several rest stops to stretch our legs and

we stopped in Weed, CA to go to the Weed Store. They carry some of the funniest t-shirts, bumper stickers and more. I bought myself a Weed, CA magnet. Probably looks silly hanging on a drug and alcohol counselor's fridge.

Then in OR we stopped at Wilderness Safari. Cameron and I had a blast checking out all of the animals. We spent 2.5 hours there and it was well worth the $35!

Cameron very happy because he got to sit in the front seat as we drove through and started looking for the animals.

Then we hit major traffic in Portland and even got stuck on this draw bridge, "quick mom take my picture...this is my first time on a draw bridge!'

I had the opportunity to attend my little sister's Senior Recital at BYU-Idaho on Tuesday. She sang 14 songs in several different languages. She is amazing!!!! Today I'm heading back to Idaho to see her graduate!!!! Congrats Christi!!!!

I'm a little behind at posting things. Blogger upload was not cooperating with me so let's see if I can get current in the next few days!

Cameron and I had a fantastic time in California. On Monday we took off and spent some time by ourselves. Cameron loves Kensie but he also loves to taunt and tease her....it was time for a little break!

So we headed to the Folsom River. There is a cool bridge you can walk across...check out this sign that's posted on both ends of the bridge.

When Cameron and I were here last year the water was too high to climb on the rocks so we were so excited when we saw that the water was down.

Steve and Jamie bragged about this sushi restaurant so I had to go and try. Jamie is pregnant so she can't eat raw fish.....I don't know how I would live without sushi for a whole 9 months!

all I am going to say is YUMMY!!!!!

Then we headed back to the pool. What a nice treat everyday to just go and sit and soak up the sun!

Kensie joined us a little while later!

My friend Nancy is a lover of cupcakes. She loves to go and find and try new places. So I went and scouted out 2 that I wanted to try in Sacramento. Unfortunately, one was closed but Cupcake Craving was open and had a nice selection.

When I asked them what their most popular one was she of course said Red Velvet. Everyplace I go to always says that. Why is that?

I'm not a follower so I went with Lemon Boost and Peppermint Patty (I just made up those names because I can't remember what they were called) The lemon one was way to lemony...it had a lemon filling that was too much. The peppermint one was good...not the best I've had but good.

This is my bros and sis-in-laws favorite place. We went here every night....it's just like Menchies in Federal Way. Go try it if you haven't already!

I know you're thinking I'm weird......why would a drug and alcohol counselor go and track down a Marijuana dispensary??? It's fascinating to me that's why!!!! I work with kids every day that are addicted to weed and there are so many people who are fighting to legalize it and are using it as a medicine....alcohol is legal and look at the destruction it causes. UGH....I get so frustrated!!!

Donna's show aired tonight! It was heart wrenching to watch knowing she's not sober. She is a wonderful lady but her disease is killing her. I pray that she will be able to one day find the happiness and freedom that I and so many others have found! Being sober ROCKS!

On a happier note her son Josh is doing fantastic and loves being sober! I spoke with him yesterday about picking up his mother's things and he informed me she is in jail.....

So, I decided that I need some accountability and who ever reads this you've been nominated!!! Here is the plan I'm counting points, hitting the track everyday at 9 am (if I'm not there then Vic and I have a bike ride planned), and drinking my water. Then every Wednesday I will be weighing in and recording my weight loss on the side bar. My goal is to lose 20 lbs this summer and to get into some sort of exercise routine so when the fall hits I'll be motivated to keep on going. I've lost 110 lbs but somewhere along the way I've lost all motivation and it's starting to sneak back. If you would like to join me I'd love the company.

I decided to buy a paper and see what cool coupons CA had to offer. I was super excited when Hip2Save said that the CA region had a $4.00 Coppertone coupon. YEA, that's where I'm at and sure enough I got one!

Todays weather was P-E-R-F-E-C-T! Not to hot, not to windy but just right! We're having a grand time and the thought of driving 12 hours on Tuesday makes me tired just thinking about it. Luckily, Cameron and I have thought of some fun things to do on the way home.....I'll update you later.

The kids have been playing fairly well together. Kensie loves it because Cameron has been playing Cinderella with her and arts and crafts!

Cameron and I headed off to have lunch together...

He's been a pretty good trooper about the whole picture taking thing but I think this picture pushed him over.

So, what is it about this place that people love??? Vicki, Teri and my Mom all really like it! I had it once in Vegas and was not impressed. I decided to give it another try and still not impressed.

The first thing we did is attempted to go to a garage sale. It was an attempt and it lasted all of about 10 minutes...then it was off to Costco. The Costco in California has far better samples then the Costco in Washington. So, we snacked our whole way through. Yummy!

Then it was off to the Folsom Aquatic Center....I love fun places that don't cost a lot and $6 is P-E-R-F-E-C-T! Here is what we did.....

Yesterday I had a screaming headache and I walked into the kitchen to get some water:

M: I have light soy at home and it doesn't look like this.

S: Just drink it.

after I drank it and swallowed my pills Steve just cracked up and went to the fridge.

It's egg whites.........he drinks egg whites!! That's GROSS!!!! I thought I was going to die. The funnier part is my brother thought he was hilarious tricking me to drink this crap but after he remembered I don't eat eggs he could not stop laughing and really thought he got me. Got to love my brother!

I must have heard that phrase 25x yesterday!!! I think this is the first vacation Cameron and I have taken by ourselves. I mean we're here with family but I don't think we've ever traveled by ourselves or planned something by ourselves....we always tag along with the family.

Yesterday morn we got up and I went for a walk while the kids rode their bikes. I'm so glad we decided to take the bike.

This is the trail by Steve's house. When the project is complete it will be 16 miles long.

Along the trail Kensie pointed out the big scary tree and then asked if I would take her picture with it!

The castle park....this park reminds me of Steele Lake Park in Federal Way except that this one is nicer, bigger and newer!

Steve took me by a clean and sober house in Folsom. I love that they put 'ODAAT' on the front of the house and above the door it says, Clean & Sober Living.

Vicki told me I had to go to Old Folsom to check out a handbag store and to get some chocolate and we did both! Not sure why I didn't not go here last year....there are some great stores!

I set my alarm for 5:30 so I could finish packing the car and be out the door by 6:00. I finally heard the alarm at 5:50 and hit snooze....I remember thinking, why do I have my alarm set for so early? Then I remembered and I jumped out of bed. Cameron and I got the car packed, prayed for safety and was out the door by 6:15....not bad!!!!!

Cameron did three things on the trip......played DS, listened to books on CD and

looked for creatures in the clouds!

We had a great time and it only took us 12 hours....well until the very end when I flew past my exit and traveled 20 miles farther down the road then I should have. Cameron finally fell asleep on that last little stretch.

We found 2 things we're going to do on our way home first we're going to stop in Weed CA and visit the weed store (I need to buy a magnet) and next we're going to stop at a drive-thru safari in Oregon. We can't wait!!!!!!

I'm so impressed how this turned out and how good they tasted! My friend Nancy and I have discussed making these a few times so I finally went and bought the supplies, called her up and said I'm coming over. These little buggers are time consuming and it makes a whole bunch but boy was it worth it!

We didn't follow the recipe exactly but at least this will give you a general idea if you want to try. I cooked all of the rice noodles (oops) and bought a 1/2 pd of shrimp (yikes)! So, if you stick with the recipe the batch will be manageable. We also didn't use their sauce we used store bought peanut sauce.

8 ounces rice vermicelli
8 rice wrappers (8.5 inch diameter)
8 large cooked shrimp - peeled, deveined and cut in half
1 1/3 tablespoons chopped fresh Thai basil
3 tablespoons chopped fresh mint leaves
3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
2 leaves lettuce, chopped
4 teaspoons fish sauce
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon garlic chili sauce
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 teaspoon finely chopped peanuts

Directions

Bring a medium saucepan of water to boil. Boil rice vermicelli 3 to 5 minutes, or until al dente, and drain.
Fill a large bowl with warm water. Dip one wrapper into the hot water for 1 second to soften. Lay wrapper flat. In a row across the center, place 2 shrimp halves, a handful of vermicelli, basil, mint, cilantro and lettuce, leaving about 2 inches uncovered on each side. Fold uncovered sides inward, then tightly roll the wrapper, beginning at the end with the lettuce. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
In a small bowl, mix the fish sauce, water, lime juice, garlic, sugar and chili sauce.
In another small bowl, mix the hoisin sauce and peanuts.
Serve rolled spring rolls with the fish sauce and hoisin sauce mixtures.

I can't believe I'm posting these pictures but I just had to journal this experience. Tuesday at 4 am I woke up feeling very strange and I could feel my upper labial frenum (scientific name for a little tag of tissue in the center of the upper lip that attaches the lip to the gums.) being stretched so tight. I instantly touched my face and that's when I feft the lips, then I touched all over and felt my forehead. I thought I was dreaming the sensation was so strange. I then jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom. This is what I saw.....

All I could do was laugh and I couldn't stop laughing. It was the funniest thing I ever saw and at 4 am there was no one to share it with. I felt fine so I took a couple of Bendryl and fell back to sleep hoping the swelling would be gone in the morning.

When I woke up my lips were even bigger and so was the mass on my forehead!

I ended up at the doctor that afternoon. Everyone stared at me and it was kind of embarrassing. I got so frustrated at one guy that I grunted at him...he just would not stop starring. I learned a HUGE lesson...I sometimes stare at people that have abnormalities and I never will again! It's uncomfortable and I now know how they feel.

The doctor thinks it was either caused by the weeds I was pulling on Monday or the ant spray I used. However, last night I did kill a nice size spider in my room...isn't that ironic!

Cameron and I have had the last several days off together and we've made the most of it. First, we invited Cameron's cousins over for a slumber party and the three of them had lots of fun. I was hoping to get out and do something but with the weather and the Wii I failed!!!

Between rain showers I did get them to go outside for a minute and I mean a minute!

Then today Cameron, Brandi and I hit the Family Fun Center, went shopping and watched Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Cameron and I just finished the book but unfortunately he was less than interested in the movie, "Mom, let's just stick with the books next time!" Good thing we went to the $2 theater.

Cameron was so excited to go on his "special trip" although he had no clue where or what he would be doing. That morning on the way to school he told his friend about his special trip and that I always pack his clothes in a back pack when he goes with other GG but this time I packed his stuff in a suitcase.

Yes, you hear my dad telling me that he was giving me his only key to his car. What the Saturn doesn't make everyone think I have buckets and buckets of money. Oh, that's right only people who drive Volvos or Audis have buckets. Right Teri?

Cameron and I are usually running around like mad dogs in the morning trying to get out the door and for awhile we were doing really good about saying our prayers but now they are on the fly and in the car :(

Yesterday I asked Cameron to please pray while I drive; "Dear Heavenly Father.......please bless that it will be sunny and warm so that I can ride my bike and that this rain will go away!" I secretly laughed because he has no idea that tomorrow he's leaving for California where it's currently 70 and tomorrow it will be 76.

Then today on the way to Grandma's it was bright and sunny and he says, "mom, he heard me he answered my prayers!"

I've been trying for a couple of weeks to get to the store to buy Cameron his new bike. Of course when my dad gets there to pick it up for me it's gone up $11 dollars! UGH!!!

Yesterday my Dad and Cameron went out biking and had a great time!!! Cameron loves his new bike and I can't wait to go with him!

When I pulled into the neighbor yesterday I saw them biking so I let out a friendly honk. I scarred Cameron to death and he almost crashed....silly me!

Just in case you're wondering Vicki and I went out biking Friday evening on the interurban trail....we are planning on some fun rides this summer!!!!

Best Mother's Day Weekend Ever

It's been a long school year and I'm exhausted!!!! A little rest and relaxation was sure needed; so, Cameron and I and a couple friends took off to Snoqualmie to stay in this cabin. We had a great time, I got to veg and relax and the weather was spectacular!!!

After we got all packed up we stopped by Snoqualmie falls. There was a ton of people there, took us 30 min to park and the observation deck was closed but we still got to see this....

On the way back to the car Cameron said, "I'm not old enough to get you a present so this year I'm giving you love!"

We had a great time together and I told Cameron love is the best present of all!!!!

Mother's and Other's Lunch

At Cameron's school this year they put on a Mother's and Other's lunch. Cameron got to invite one special person to come in and have lunch with him. The kids even wrote poems to read! 'Other' Grandma was the lucky winner but unfortunately due to some scheduling conflicts that fell through (Mim, if your reading this we love you no matter what....she feels horrible and this post is certainly not to make her feel worse)!!! Luckily, Aunt Vicki is on leave from her knee surgery and she was able to attend.

I know Vicki can because one Christmas I unwrapped 2 cassette tapes (to peak of course) and I liked the one she was getting better so I switched the tags. I think I did that with Nordstrom sweaters my Grandma got us too. Ohhh....I was naughty!!!

My bike rack came on Friday and there was no assembly required....I love that!!!! So, Saturday I went out and bought a bike. Some of my friends are making fun of me because I bought a $100 Walmart special! I don't care it works and Cameron and I can go ride. Look how cool my car looks with the rack on back!

Yesterday Cameron wanted to go for a bike ride so bad but it kept raining, the wind was blowing and it was freezing.

C: Mom, can we please go!

M: Let's try tomorrow it's cold buddy

C: We can put our hoods on and our coats...it will be ok.

M: Ok, one time around the block

I thought I was going to die it was so cold. While riding with him I realized his bike is way to small so guess what??? We'll be buying him a new one soon. I have a little bit of $$ left from Uncle Sam and I just put his old bike on Craig's list for $20. Anyone need a bike?

The weather is so not cooperating this week. I started this whole lawn expedition on Monday it's now Wednesday and I finally finished but not without some mishaps;

1. The weed-eater kept coming unravelled

2. There was sun, then no sun, sun, then no sun....the problem was every time the sun left the rain came

3. My weed-eater kept coming unplugged (maybe I should purchase a gas powered one)

4. Finally the weather cooperated yesterday (for a brief minute) and I got one loop around the yard and the lawn mower ran out of gas :(

5. I told myself today come hell or high water I'm going to get this done so I mowed in the RAIN!!!!!

Here are some pictures of this great event....it's a great event because I hate yard work. Get use to reading blog entries like this because for me this is a BIG deal!

My neighbor mows his lawn down to the dirt and then my lawn looks like a jungle and of course he mows right along the property line so it looks horrible. Believe it or not I just mowed a week and a half ago. Why is it 2 or 3 days after you mow the dandelions spout up 6-8 inches? How do they grow so fast?

No wonder I couldn't start this thing last time....should have read the directions right on the machine.....it clearly states push to pime 3x. I had no problem starting it today or yesterday.

I used a weed whacker yesterday....all by myself, no help from anyone!!! It even unraveled and I put it back together. I feel like such an adult!!

Every morning I give Cameron a thumbs up or a thumbs down...it's his way of showing Grandma how the morning has been. Some days it's double thumbs up, some days it's a side ways thumbs down, and he's even received two thumbs down (that was a rough morning). As we pull up to Grandma's and he's collecting all of his stuff (this usually takes several minutes) like his backpack, several toys and other crap he just has to bring. Then he debates with me about what he thinks he should receive for the morning:

C: Do I get a thumbs up?

M: Yea, you get a thumbs up!

C: Two thumbs up?

M: No, one today!

C: How about 3?

M: Bud, just one today! Hurray get you stuff....I love you but I got to go!

C: (now talking non-stop over my chatter) 4? 100? What about 1000? 1 billion? Pie?

M: Wait, Pie? What's pie?

C: (looking at me like I should know) Pie, is a number!

M: Who taught you about pie?

C: A friend.....

The things he is learning this year from 'friends' are cracking me up. Can you picture a bunch of 1st graders playing on the big toy and discussing pie???? Good times, good times!!!!

I got the blue ribbon

Yesterday Cameron had his final track meet and I was actually there to see it. Here is a video of the 100yd dash. He received the first place blue ribbon, however; it appears after watching the video that he was second place.....but shhhh don't tell!!!

This is a video of Cameron's relay team....they did great and came in 2nd place. Cameron was the first runner so you can barely see him in the video---look for his red jacket!

Things are beginning to come together......

Vicki and my Mom worked hard this week on putting our new website together for the clean and sober house....it looks great! I contacted my new friend Diana and asked if she would create a header and a button for us and she was so impressed with what we are doing that she donated it to us. Thanks Diana!!! Check her blog out!

Donna will be moving into our house mid-may and we can't be more excited! If you have no clue what I'm talking about then you'll need to read here.

I'm lacking festive Easter decorations. I had hardly anything in the attic and then when I went out to purchase some I couldn't find anything that I liked. So........I decided I would just live with what I had!!!

My mom still thinks of me at Easter and makes a little basket for me each year. I love it! This year she surprised me and made me the cutest table runner. Yea, something to add to my Easter collection!!!!!

I forgot my camera at home today when I went to visit Vicki in the hospital. I used my camera phone and got 4 great pics and now I can't get them downloaded on here......so, this upside down leg picture is going to have to do for right now.

Vicki is resting well at the hospital. The giant cell tumor was removed successfully along with her fibula. The doctor said the leg does not need that bone just the ankle...taught you something new didn't I? As long as the drain comes out tomorrow with no problems she'll be able to come home. We love you Vicki!!!!!

Cameron had his first track meet on Saturday. Unfortunately, I missed the whole thing because I was off selling handbags but he did great. When I finally arrived I went and found him on the field. He was so excited to see me and never realized I wasn't in the crowd cheering him on.

Here is the mass flood of people....it was some serious chaos.

The first graders got to participate in 3 events; the long jump, 50 yd dash and the baseball throw. Next meet he will get to do the relay.

Jeremy, Alicia and Aiden finally made it to Washington for a visit. Cameron was so excited to meet Aiden and Aiden loves Cameron!!!!! It was great being able to hang out this weekend and get all caught up.

I love this show. I love that it's real. I love the emotion that is displayed. I love that the individuals get help. I love that families come together and get into the solution. I love that I can totally relate. I love that every time I watch I cry. I love that one of the producers called me yesterday. {You just had to reread that sentence, huh?} You read it right. One of the producers called me and wants us to sponsor one of their clients in our clean and sober house in exchange for free publicity on their web and our house name will be in their rolling credits. Pinch me, please! I'm so stinking excited I could scream. The show won't air for awhile and the gal is still in treatment for another month but how cool is this! So, stay tuned and I'll let you know when it's on! If you haven't ever seen the show check it out here!

This is my Brother-in-law Nick, he's married to Sharon. We've been hearing about his deep frying skills for some time now and how good a deep fried turkey tastes. Well, it's our lucky year because Nick cooked for Eater dinner.

Here's how it's done:

Injection of some smart balance

(I think butter is probably preferred but you won't find real butter at our house)

temp up to 350 degrees

Let cook for 45 minutes

Tadaaaaaa.....a deep fried turkey

Let me tell you......it actually was very good!

At first Cameron wanted nothing to do with it because it looked so different. But he took a bite and had 3 large servings.

I'm on a 'spring blink' this week. My school district went on strike at the beginning of the year and instead of having the whole glorious week off I go back to work tomorrow. I'm so tired that I've already contemplated calling in sick tomorrow but I'll be a trooper and just get it done. Is it summer time yet?

Since Cameron had a spring break last week (next year we actually have a spring break the same week....first time in 5 years) I've been able to get some things done the last 2 days while he's been in school. Spring blink = spring cleaning! You would think since I only moved in 8 months ago there shouldn't be a whole lot of crap.....I have at least 3 bags of crap that need a ride to the DI!

Man, I got sidetracked now onto the real post. I had lunch with Cameron today...remember last year? If not go here! He requested chicken teriyaki, chocolate milk and a peanut butter cup. I picked up the necessary items and headed off to his school. It's so cute he runs around introducing me to everyone, "this is my Mom Mandy!" All the little girls thought I was the best especially when they asked me if I like Lady Gaga and I said YES!

So, while eating the lunch lady Ms. Wyman comes up to me and says you must be a Jones? You all look the same. Then she goes on to tell me that she remembers Sharon, Christi and Keith (all by name). I asked her how long she has worked here and she tells me 21 years. I remember when I was in an Art class in the 8th grade and the teacher Ms. ?? (Vicki you'll have to help me out) comes up to one of my friends and tells her that she taught her mother in Art. I always thought that was a little strange but now I have a kid and a lady remembers my brother and sisters. I'm either getting old or she's worked there way too long.

Cameron and I had a great day....I went and played with all his friends on the playground and even jump roped. Cameron wants to know if we can do this again next year....I told him we'll do it as long as he still wants me around. For some strange reason I can picture him in the 6th grade still wanting me there.

I asked Cameron this morning if he knew the true meaning of Easter and to my surprise he knows. He said, "Mom, I know but do you know what happened on Good Friday?" Although the holidays like Christmas and Easter are so much fun it has always bothered me that I focus more on the commercial stuff and not enough on the 'true meaning.' It's reassuring after his Good Friday comment and the conversation that followed that I'm doing something right.

Yesterday we spent the day with friends and went to an egg hunt in Milton. Cameron got his face painted. It's amazing to me as he grows up the more things he's willing to try. A few years ago there is no way!

I like to bake....sometimes! The problem is I pick and I pick and I pick. So needless to say having the crap around me is not a good idea. But I offered to bring dessert to my mom's and found a couple of recipes to try.

These are Rice Chex Krispy Bunny Pops with white chocolate. They are so cute and so easy to make. I found the cookie cutter at Joanne's and it was 40% off....bonus!

My friend Nancy is a HUGE cupcake fan. Every time I see a cupcake I think of her. I found a blog that has some real fun cupcakes and so I decided to try Red Velvet cupcakes with peppermint white chocolate cream cheese frosting. I forgot to add the cup of mini chocolate chips and so I just sprinkled some big ones on top.

I really want to try these cupcakes sometime but they look hard....Martha Stewart's Chick Cupcakes.

On Friday my mom decorated eggs with Cameron. Thank goodness because I don't like to do it! I don't eat hard boiled eggs -yuck- and so decorating seems like a big waste of time. Plus look how cute they made their eggs.
